I never thought I got Seasick……………But

I’ve always been a tad smug in the fact that I never get Seasick and have said in the past that I think a lot of it is Psychological. I do still think that but after suffering from my first bought of Sea Sickness I can maybe understand a little more as to why.

On my last update you will rememeber that I was heading off on the Irish sea over to Dublin towards the end of December on our Cruise Confernece and travelling on the lovely but small Marco Polo. The crossing going out from when we left Avonmouth gradually got more rocky to the point when in the evening when stood in the bar you looked like you were dancing when even standing still. A decent number of people seemd to be missing at this point and had gone back to cabins due to sickness and the Motion of the Ocean but to me it was fine. ( Again boosting my smugness )

We were in Dublin the next day so after out conference had finished we got time to explore and then has a great night in Temple Bar and then back on the ship to finsih things off. I drank plenty of water when I got back to the cabin as wanted to be nice and fresh for the conference the next day. So did that work well yes it did I felt fresh all morning and then went for lunch and had an amazing curry a decision that would come back haunt me a little later.

After we left the shelter of the port and gradually got out to see I remembered someone saying that we were going into a force 9 gale and have to be honest you could see and feel it. I was fine at this point then could see a few going a little green. At this point still fine but then my friend I was sharing with said he felt sick and had to leave the room. Again I was fine but over the next half hour it began to hit me at around 3.30pm. The feeling of sitting there and knowing you are going to be sick will stick with me. I had to excuse myself and went back to the cabin and was sick several times. I rested up but the sea dis not and I got ready to meet up at 6pm but as I was just about to eneter the dinning room I had to go back again. I eventually felt I could be sick no more and got ready again around 9pm and went and got a sea sickness tablet from guest services but even after that I jyst gave up and went back to my cabin. No Smugness this time I missed  half a day and night of the cruise. I did manage a little walk around and was amazed how few had made it out and the ones who did had been smart and took tablets on the morning so did not feel the effects we all did.

Anyway I have to say that I was really impressed with the ship and everything that she had to offer. Yes she is old but had a had a great flow to her from the cabins to the restaurants and bars and lounges.

I thought the food was great so much better than I was expecting. The breakfast from the buffett or the main dinning room if you prefer to be seated and have some table service. Again the buffet lunch in both had plenty of choice and everything seem to had really good flavours and be of good quality. The Evening Meals again great tastes and quality however the service did seem on occassions a bit lacking and missing attention to detail a few times.

The Bars were great Scotts Bar was loads of fun on an evening and the Palm Garden was great for a nice relaxing sit down with frineds and taking in the ocean views. My favourite was the little bar area of the captains club were the Barman Barbosa was the most frinedly of the crew and put some of the others to shame.

I spoke to a customer who had just come off a 33Night cruise on Marco Polo and was asking about a 70 Night cruise after that. I’m not sure I would do that long on her but would 100% sail on her again although maybe not in Decemeber on the Irish Sea or maybe I would just take some sea sickness tablets with me!
