The up’s and down’s of cruising……… quite literally!

Yes, I am fully aware that there are up and down arrows on the outside of lifts. You press the down one to go down and the up one to go up. You get in the lift to go up to the buffet or the Pool Deck and realize that you have got in a lift that is going down – infuriating isn’t it! We have all done it haven’t we? Please tell me it’s not just me!

Quantum, being a ‘smartship’ has come up with a very simple solution, one so simple that I can’t believe no one has thought of it before. Set aside the main features of Quantum, North Star, iFly by Ripcord, Two70 etc, this simple detail was something that caught my eye and made me smile because it made my use of the lifts less frustrating and its simplicity was brilliant.

Above each lift is a light bar, for want of a better description. You call the lift as normal and then if the lift that is approaching your deck is going down, as it has already been called to a lower deck,  the bar will light up red so if you want to go up you know not to get into it, and it will come as no surprise to learn that if the lift you have called is going up then the bar lights up green. So simple it’s brilliant!

Sometimes it’s the little things in life that make all the difference. I cannot tell you how many hours I have wasted going up and down and down and up in lifts on cruise ships, and this simple idea on Quantum meant that I could step into a lift confident in the knowledge I would be heading in the right direction even if it did stop at a couple of decks en route.
