Is a Downton Abbey Themed Cruise a Possibility?

Are you, like me, loving the new series of Downton, and savouring every moment as this is to be the final one? Isn’t it just wonderful! I can’t wait for the wedding next week between Mr Carson and Mrs Hughes and of course the big question is, where will they hold their reception? Will Mrs Hughes cave in to Lady Mary’s offer and use a room at Downton or will she stick to her guns and chose a more low key venue that she feel suits her and Mr Carson’s status better? All will be revealed next Sunday no doubt.

So what lies ahead for the cast of Downton once they hang up their corsets for the final time? Well, Phyllis Logan who plays the part of Mrs Hughes, Elsie Hughes we recently learned, has expressed an interest in hosting a Downton Abbey themed cruise. She thinks it would be great fun  and it really is something she would love to do.

The question is, which cruise line would be the most appropriate? I think it would have to be one of the more traditional cruise lines such as Cunard don’t you? Poor Mr Carson would go into tailspin on a Royal Caribbean ship! I think it has to be Cunard and I can just see the cast in the Queens Room taking afternoon tea or ‘under the clock’ gathered for pre-dinner cocktails! What a wonderful thought, and to have the chance to mingle with them would be just wonderful.

Phyllis Logan isn’t the only cast member who is keen on the idea, Joanne Froggatt, who plays ladies maid Anna Bates is also a big fan of the idea and would like all of the cast to join in so that they can just ‘hang out’ together – and with viewers too I hope! Maybe we could also get Julian Fellows to come along and do some talks for us about where he got his inspiration from.

Ahh well, for now it’s just a pipe dream although I might just pop along and have a word with our Marketing Department and make the suggestion. If there is any news I will keep you posted so watch this space.
