P&O new ship has been named …

P&O have recently announced the name of their new ship which will arrive in the fleet in 2020.  Iona will be a 5200 passenger ship and the largest in the P&O fleet.  The 180,000 ton ship will also be the largest ever built for the British cruise market and the first ship to run on Liquefied Natural Gas.  The name of Iona came from P&O running a competition which they invited members of the public to name the new ship.  Over 30,000 people entered the competition to name the ship.  The name was actually announced by Stephen Mulhern after the winning name was selected .  The ship is being built at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.  Very few details have been released at the moment but P&O have said more information will be coming soon.  The emphasis will be on food, drink and entertainment the same as the other ships in the fleet.  There will be alfresco restaurants and bars and the focus will be the Atrium with triple glass panels.  The ship will have 17 eateries with 7 speciality restaurants.  There will be 12 bars and 13 entertainment venues and spaces.

I am looking forward to seeing the features this new ship will have as P&O release more information.  I love P&O as a brand and have been lucky enough to sail on lots of their ships with Britannia being the last when she launched.  I hope I can experience the new Iona when she launches in 2020.  The cruises for Iona will be on sale from September this year and I am sure will be very popular and sell very well.  I will need to get myself booked on so I can see what the ship has to offer.

P&O are really good for the British market and are such good value for money once on board.  I really think that the new Iona will do them proud!
