My Canada/Alaska Adventure (Part 1)

Well what can I say, but this has been a truly amazing adventure of a Holiday and since I was away for over 2 weeks – I felt it only fair to do my trip justice and split over a few upcoming blogs…

Anyone who follows my facebook page will have seen some of these pictures, so sorry about that, and also anyone I have spoken to since back will have heard a lot about this trip but for the rest of you here we have it..

This was I think the longest holiday I have been on – since taking 6 weeks out on finishing school to visit family in Canada.. So whilst I have visited Canada before I had only ever been to the East Coast – Ontario/ Quebec etc..

Our journey started on the 3rd May with flights from Heathrow – Calgary direct with Air Canada, overall very impressed with the service on the flight and a great selection of entertainment on the seat back audio available and the flight passed relatively quickly.

On arrival at Calgary, we collected our pre-booked rental car and drove to our apartment the base for our first week. The apartment was situated in Canmore which was about 25 minutes drive from Banff.  The town itself was very pretty and a typical Ski resort area offering lots of tourist shops, and a good selection of bars and restaurants.  The town centre was walkable – about half an hour each way – but not recommended to walk it at night owing to bears…

We enjoyed a couple of lazy days in and around Canmore itself but also took day trips out to:

The blustery walk in to Canmore + The view from our Apartment…

Banff – on the day of the Champions League Semi-Finals – as my Husband supports Liverpool I found him a great English pub to watch the match whilst my Mum & I explored Banff.

A Beautiful little church in Banff  & A lovely small waterfall and stream close to Banff Springs..

The Columbia Icefield Parkway – This was an amazing trip, we actually drove to the visitor centre ourselves and did the combined ticket for the ATV on to the Glacier itself and also visited the Skywalk – a glass walkway overhanging the glacier.

Me – standing on the glacier, looks very different when topped with snow and the pathway for the ATV is carved out of the snow… & The Glass Sky Walk

Lake Louise – This has long been on my wish list to visit the Chateau Lake Louise, overlooking the Crystal waters of the stunning lake… however this was May !! The lake was frozen solid so this was a very different experience than I had expected but amazing to be able to walk on the lake. We also walked the path around the side of the lake to see the “waterfall” which was frozen too and it was snowing on our walk back.. amazing memories just writing about it now is bringing it all back.

The Frozen Waterfall and a very frozen Lake Louise in from of the Chateau Lake Louise Hotel.

Keep reading future blogs for the rest of my amazing holiday..

Frankie.
