Old Style or New? Which would you choose?

Last week I spoke about Too Big = Too Impersonal ….. This week I wanted to touch on my thoughts about how shocked I am at how many of my customers call or email me to ask for a cruise and it has to be specifically All Inclusive.  Coming from a Thomas Cook background I was so used to this in the travel agency for holiday resorts in Turkey, Spain or the Caribbean but not for cruising.  Now it has become more about what is included, on board spending money, Drinks, Coach travel, Buy One Get One Half Price or Free ….

So have we really lost touch with what cruising used to be all about?  Classy, Sophistication, Service, spacious open decks, Formal Dress, Queen Mary 2, Cunard, White Star Service, traditional … These are all words I think of when I associate the old style way of a dream cruise! Have the big ships taken over and the smaller ships have all been left behind? Have you seen the newest ships that are entering service?

Do you think we have enough of our share of ships that sail directly from Southampton? Do you wish for more diverse itineraries?

Has cruising really become more about what we get included for our money rather than the actual whole experience of sailing to another port in style?
