Too Big = Too Impersonal or not?

This week I wanted to share with my thoughts around whether too big really does mean too impersonal? …. I have spoken to quite a few customers recently and they have mentioned how they love the smaller ships, with the more intimate feel and these huge ships are now taking over and getting ridiculously big and pretty much placing a negative impact on the industry.  What do you think so far? Would you agree? I am in 2 minds!

Larger ship with more space, a variety of clientele, abundance of facilities including restaurants and bars and a fun atmosphere for all?

Smaller ship with a more personal and intimate feel with waiters remembering your favourite drink or nibble and being able to get to know other guests?

In this modern day now we are talking about wireless charging, talking to a piece of technology and it can add to your shopping list or dim the lighting in any room just from your say so to being able to control your heating and other equipment whilst out shopping! SO …. are we out of touch and just not moving along with the times? Or has the cruise industry gone mad?

I am all for excellent service, a waiter remembering your drink at the bar or bumping into the same people from the day before but in this innovative day and age this will never just remain as this.  I would never like to see service being impacted and neglected but just because we may step on a ship which has a 100ft drop, different neighborhoods, rock climbing walls to 6000 passengers and an abundance of facilities does not mean that will be lost.  Who knows where things will be in another 20 years time!

I do believe smaller ships should stay to be able to still offer this traditional way of cruising as otherwise the whole history of cruising would be forgotten but I do believe the cruise lines are moving at the pace that is required in this 21st century. Our ships out on the seas are now catering for families of all ages, couples. weddings, honeymoons, birthdays, solo travellers, mini breaks, a trip of a lifetime and so much more so there has to be something out there for everyone.

I would love to hear your thoughts!
