How to avoid feeling seasick!

You always hear that with sea sickness at first you worry you might die, and then after a while you worry you won’t!

Here’s a few tips for you to stay fit and well during your holiday.

First of all, what is Sea Sickness?

Motion sickness, or Kinetosis, also known as travel sickness, is a condition in which a disagreement exists between visually perceived movement and the vestibular system’s sense of movement. Depending on the cause, it can also be referred to as seasickness, car sickness, simulation sickness or airsickness.

So how do we avoid it?

1: RELAX!

One of the main reasons we heighten the effect of seasickness is by our though patterns. It may be hard to ignore the movement of the ship but hello! You are in the middle of the sea? Keep yourself calm and attended an engaging activity, you’ll soon realise you’re feeling better!

2: Keep still

Whether this means sitting in a bar, lounge, theatre or even your cabin. Don’t move! You will feel better quicker if you find a quiet spot in the middle of the ship where less motion is felt. If you can lie down.

3: Sleep

You may struggle at  first but what’s an hour out of your holiday? Retire to your cabin and sleep or even rest for an hour. You will become custom to the movement and will be fighting fit once you’ve got your sealegs back on!

4: Use a natural remedy

Sea sickness can be treated in many ways, my favourite is the wristbands, they use acupressure to even out your balance. They work very well for me and I don’t know where I’d be without them! There are many tablets you can tale that are like gummy sweets. Alternatively sips of water and nibbles of bread will help. Keep your eye on land (if you see any) and chill!

5: Seek medical assistance!

Don’t be afraid to visit the medical centre. they can administer an injection in your rear regions that will have you fighting fit in no time. This should really be a last resort.
