World Cruising

At the age of 19 I was saying goodbye to my parents from the port of Dover. I wouldn’t be seeing them for a while as i was about to sail around the world.

Yes the world. Started at Dover and returned to Dover over 3 months later. I was lucky to do this 3 times.

People often ask me where my favourite place in the world is.

They expect to hear me say Bora Bora or maybe Mauritius, yes these places were beautiful but for me it was beach after beach which is lovely if you like to relax all day but if you are like me and after 15 minutes on a sunbed i want to go exploring. Here are some of my favourites.

The Falkland Islands. The Falkland Islands have some of the largest rockhopper penguin colonies in the world. So unaffected by the presence of humans, you can stand by and watch them hop down to the sea for food. A set of buildings with themed exhibition areas containing a notable collection of historic and maritime relics including displays from the Falklands War of 1982.

Montevideo. I experienced the life of Uruguay’s iconic gaucho with a visit to a sprawling livestock ranch to sheer a sheep, watch demonstrations of horsemanship and enjoy a delicious open-fire barbecue and maybe too much wine.

Easter Island Chile.  The lake of the 1,000-foot tall extinct volcano is one of the island’s only three natural bodies of fresh water. A natural site of intense beauty and the  views from the top are breath taking.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I went to the top to see the statue of Christ the Redeemer on Corcovado Mountain. Unfortunately I didn’t see anything as it was extremely foggy so a little disappointing.

San Fransico. Wow, my favourite city. I got to go to Alcatraz. This was amazing and probably one of my most favourite excursions. I would love to take my husband here one day and you never know i may forget to bring him back ?
