Happy Mothers Day, Cruise or Flowers ?

Hello Cruisers.

So this Sunday is Mothering Sunday

My son asked when it is Son’s day to which i replied every day!

Every time I ask my mum what she would like for mothers day or birthdays she only ever has one answer.

A CRUISE!!!

Every time I laugh and say flowers it is then.

It is her 70th birthday this year so maybe I will have to step up from flowers to a cruise.

While looking for  cruises for my mum in the past I  have found out she is becoming more and more picky the older she gets.

Her first cruise was in 2001 on MS Saga Rose where she joined in Dover for 14 nights.

I never thought she would ever step foot on  a ship let alone sail on one but she had no choice as she had come to see me perform on the stage in  the Broadway shows.

Since then she has become addicted and now i can’t get her off them.

Before she would have been happy with any cabin , but i have noticed that now she will not sail without a balcony cabin.

Has cruising made her fussy? Maybe.

I asked her why she wouldn’t choose a cabin grade lower and her reply was she has no clue what time of day it is in an inside cabin and she likes to sit outside in the morning to have her tea.

I  have to agree  regarding the inside cabin, as on the first cruise i worked on i lived in an inside cabin for 2 years, when you wake up you are not sure if it is in  the middle of the night or in the morning and of course way back then I didn’t have a mobile phone i could just pick up next to my bed to tell me the time, I had to lay there and check for what noises there were  to gauge what time it was. Don’t forget i was living on the crew decks so it could get quite noisy.

When i went onto my next contract i had an ocean view cabin  and it was amazing, i could see the light and i used to love sitting right by the window to read my book and watch the sea which is one of my favorite things to do.

I have also had a balcony when i sailed as a guest and to be honest I never used the balcony. I sat outside  for a while but then came in as I would rather be around the ship.

Now if i was in a hotel i would be lost without a balcony but there is so much more to do aboard a ship than a hotel, so for me its an ocean view cabin.

Everyone is different and of course now the ships are more luxurious and bigger so even the inside cabins are spacious and homely, different to years ago.

Now they even have Virtual inside cabins which I think is a fab idea.

Balconies used to be so much more expensive many years ago but now on an average they are only £100-200 more than an inside cabin.

Well better get back to searching for my mum’s cruise with her balcony.

I wish you all a happy Mothers Day
