The Caribbean is not Just beaches!

Some of you may already know that my family and I are venturing to the Caribbean on our next big family Holiday. It will be a first for many of us , including myself.

For the last few cruises we have done , I have always stayed within Europe , but as my girls are getting older they are a little fed up with the big cities aspect of excursion life and fancied a change.

We are booked with MSC on their Brand New Seaside which is due for completion towards the end of this year.

I have studied MSC’s itineraries that their current Ship – Divina has been doing for the past few years and been inspired by the variation offered in the excursions and what choice there is out there for ALL ages.

I am going to look at the Bahamas today as this will feature Twice in my itinerary next year. Here are my finding of what Nassau in particular can offer.

Firstly it boasts the largest  open air Aquarium in the WORLD!, it has over 100 different species of colourful tropical fish where you can interact with dolphins. My girls would love this. Nassau also boasts charming colonial-style buildings and numerous pastel-coloured wooden shops that alternate with Georgian-style structures.

If you are after a taste of the local style of living, take a trip to just 5 km west of the city to Cable Beach, on it you will be able to admire the coastline of the Bahamas and its fantastic colours, golden sand and lively nightlife for those young enough to enjoy it!

In addition to the casinos, which are very popular with gamblers, one of the most appealing characteristics of a holiday in Nassau is the possibility to do some low-cost shopping- Oooh did I hear Low cost???

Bargain Hunters Alert!- Head over to the Straw market where the typical Bahamian souvenirs are sold, bartering is a tradition that is almost a duty. A ride in a surrey, a horse-drawn carriage, is an excellent relaxing way to discover the old city while listening to stories told by the driver on the ride for those who are perhaps less mobile.

Another fascinating site is known locally as the Queen’s staircase, a large, hand-made stone staircase from which you can enjoy a magnificent view of Nassau, Paradise Island and a good portion of the Bahamas.

Now does all that sound good? So not just a Sandy beach to explore eh?

In future blogs, I will be looking at my other ports of call and what i will be planning with my family.

Until next time!
