Tips and advice when Cruising as a solo traveller.

Cruising and solo travellers should be a match made in heaven. Your travel arrangements are all handled by an expert. (Well in most cases anyway.) You are looked after on board and you are in a safe environment in which to socialise. You are also unlikely to be the only person travelling on your own.

The down side though is the cost. With some of the cruise liners charging double as it most cases they calculate on board spend on the basis of two passengers.

There is some good news. It appears that more and more lines are building ships with dedicated single cabins. Also fares are being offered at low or even NO single supplement on selected dates. The question you may ask is but where do I find these? Well I am here to help you with a few handy tips to help you find the best deals.

Single occupancy cabins are in short supply so you have to book early or you might just miss the boat. If you already have a cruise booked, it is a good idea to book your next one while you are on board. Many liners will offer you special discounts if you book with them there and then also you get your pick of the cabins available.

I’m not sure if you are aware but Holland America offer a single partner programme. Basically same sex passengers will share a room and if they cant find a partner to share with you you will still pay the one person rate.

Norwegian cruise liners started a trend back in 2010 with the release of the Norwegian epic. This vessel has 128 single studio cabins. The breakaway Getaway and escape also have a large amount to choose from.

Fred Olsen and Saga have a large number of Solo passengers. These ships are for the more mature customer. so if this is you it could be ideal.

If you prefer a larger ship then P&O and Royal Caribbean also have solo cabins however you need to get in very quick as they sell out fast.

If you are looking for a luxury cruise liner Crystal cruise offer great double cabins at very low supplements. Sometimes only an additional 10%

So as you can see the choices are out there. If you have any questions then please let me know and I would be happy to help. I would love to hear from solo travellers about the experience with booking cabins or travelling on the own. Any advice would be great.
