The Largest ship out of Southampton. But what is it?

question mark

Today I have some very exciting news to share with you guys!!!

It has been revealed that none other then P&O Cruises will be releasing a brand new ship for 2020. The new ship will be in excess of 180 thousand tonnes and will accommodate 5200 guests. This will by far be the largest ship ever to sail out of the UK. Dwarfing the current biggest, set by the independence of the seas.

Boosted by the very successful launch of the Britannia last year. P&O believe now is the right time to release another ship. As yet it has been yet to be named, however if I were a betting man I would put a lot of money on the fact that it will end in an A.

According to P&O president Paul Ludlow, The number of British passengers taking a cruise has significantly increased. There is still massive potential for more people when they realise the great value for money.

One of the biggest factors on this new ship is that it is going to be one of the most environmentally efficient ship in P&OS history. It will use Liquefied Natural Gas to protect the companies sustainability goals.

A question I would like to ask you is this… With a massive 5200 guests is this ship just too big? Is this taking away the traditional style of sailing to accommodate and entice new to cruising?. I know there are ships out there that will have 1 member of staff to every 1 guest. If you cruise on this ship will you just be another face in the crowd. I personally prefer the bigger ships as I believe there is something on board for everyone. I cant help think that this will put off the old school cruisers and make them search elsewhere for a more personalised service.

I would love to hear thoughts from people who prefer larger and smaller ships. It will be interesting to hear both sides.
