Drag Up Your Cruise!

Anyone who knows me knows that I am a HUGE fan of RuPaul’s Drag Race, its an American television show that pits drag queens against each other in increasingly bizarre challenges as they compete to be crowned ‘America’s Next Drag Superstar’ by legendary star RuPaul and to win a cash prize of $100,000. Each week, the bottom two must lip-sync for their lives in front of RuPaul to prove they are worthy of staying another week. The loser of the lip-sync is told to ‘Sashay away’.

Season 11 has recently started and the show is more popular than ever especially with millennials, it’s snowballed into a cultural phenomenon and some of the competitors have taken the world by storm with films, albums & television appearances.  It was only a matter of time before cruise lines would recognise the potential appeal and offer a Drag themed cruise so it was interesting to see this week that premium river cruise line Uniworld will offer a Drag Themed Cruise on their U by Uniworld ship The A this July on their Germany’s Finest itinerary.

Themed cruises tend to be focused on wine, music or history so it’s refreshing to see the younger market being catered for. The departure on July 6th 2019 will feature Jiggly Caliente who featured on Season 4 and was notorious for one of the worst runway looks in the show’s history in her post apocalyptic hot glued dress, there is also Phi Phi O’Hara who was the villain of Season 4 for her treatment of the eventual winner and finally legendary lip-syncer Darienne Lake from Season 6. Whilst none of these Queens won the show, they are all Drag Race stars and this is a fantastic opportunity to get up close and personal with them. The itinerary includes a karaoke party, comedy show, drag make up lesson and more.

Lead in prices start from £2,499 per person so its certainly not a cheap cruise, however it is a unique opportunity. Unfortunately with my upcoming wedding, I don’t have the time or funds to go on this particular cruise. You can stream Season 1 to Season 11 currently on Netflix; I would highly recommend it, you’ll soon be quoting it and singing the songs!

The Germany’s Finest departure cruises from Regensburg to Frankfurt from July 6th 2019 and visits beautiful German cities including Kelheim, Nuremberg, Bamberg, Wurzburg & Miltenberg before ending in Frankfurt.
