Botox.. at sea!

I love Botox.. and I’m not afraid or embarrassed to say so! it’s a miracle drug! I know what you must be thinking, he’s too young to be having Botox! When I tell people I have Botox injections every 3 months, they look at me like I’m mad but once I explain why, they say ‘oh I never knew it could be used for that!’.

In September 2008 at the tender age of 19, I woke up one day with a terribly sore neck and severe muscle spasms. As the weeks went on, it only seemed to be getting worse, I spent 6 months bedridden in absolute agony. I was finally diagnosed with the neurological disorder, Dystonia which is characterized by involuntary muscle spasms that result in twisting and repetitive movements or abnormal postures and extreme pain. It’s a life long condition that has no cure and only a few forms of treatment – the most common being Botox injections to relax the muscles. Botulinum toxin injections work by blocking the signals that are sent from the nerve cells to the muscles. I have my injections at KIngs College Hospital in London every 3 months and they have allowed me to live a pretty normal life. Before I was diagnosed with Dystonia, I had no idea that Botox could be used for anything other than beauty treatments.

One of my favourite things to do on a cruise is to enjoy the spa area & treatments. My favourite spa on a cruise so far has been the Cloud 9 Spa on Carnival Cruise Line, it’s worth upgrading to the 8S Balcony Staterooms which give you complimentary access to the spa as well as discounts on select treatments. I have recently been reading some articles about spa & cosmetic treatments at sea and its interesting to see that cruise lines are now catering to savvy travelers who want something different than just a standard manicure or a pedicure. Celebrity Cruises’ AquaSpa has developed its offering to include a wide range of spa experiences as well as cosmetic treatments such as teeth whitening and Botox. All treatments are administered by their very own Med-Spa Physician. Carnival, Norwegian & Royal Caribbean also offer teeth whitening at sea. It’s no wonder that guests want to look their very best on their cruise.

Would you consider having a spa treatment such as botox injections, dermal fillers or teeth whitening on a cruise ship?
