A Chic night out

Last Sunday night, as part of the 2013 UK City of Culture events, my home town came alive to the voice of Nile Rodgers and the hip music of Chic. Who are they I hear you shout???? Well before Glastonbury I would have been asking the same, had I not heard them belting out their famous tunes like Le Freak, Every body Dance and I want your love . Their well received session there set them up for a fantastic gig at our temporary culture hot spot ‘The Venue’. The tickets sold out in no time and many a pre-party event was organised. There were rumours of empty hangers left in fancy dress shops as not a stitch of 70’s clothing could be found from Derry to Belfast.

I was heart broken to not be able to get a ticket and had to listen to excited cackles of people buzzing around the town getting last minute bits and pieces, even my wee mammy managed to get her hands on the biggest golden ticket since Willy Wonka and his chocolate factory!
Well, I need to dry my tears and get ready to boogie as today some very exciting news indeed was announced – THEY ARE COMING BACK!!!!! Halloween is the biggest night of the year in Derry, with people coming from all over the world to our carnival, and it was announced today that Chic are coming back for a special 70’s themed halloween party. I may dust of the old platform shoes, crack out the flares and dig out the disco ball and be prepared to queue, possibly at stupid o’clock, to get my hands on a pair of tickets. I will not fail this time!!! I might even need to purchase a wee sleeping bag and go now, just to secure my space.

So, i’m off to do a bit of shopping on ebay first to try and get the right outfit – you can never be organised too early. Some people on Facebook and Twitter are talking about getting dressed up to go and queue for the tickets but I don’t think I’ll go that far, but it would make for some interesting photos!!!
