Princess for a day…

Today I was lucky enough to spend the day on the amazing Caribbean Princess.

She is quite a big ship, she looked huge sat in the River Mersey with the liver birds watching over her, what an amazing port to arrive into and the weather may not have been perfect  as it poured down late this afternoon but this lady did not care about that.
Liverpool cruise port is so easy to get into the city from, its 10 minutes walk to the heart of the fabulous Liverpool one shopping area not to mention the very well known Cavern club.
There are usually lots of things going on around the water front i mean who wouldn’t want to sail on the Mersey ferry, she may be a dot compared to this grand lady but iconic in its own way, it’s nice to see the ship from a different perspective now and again.

The ferry times are all up in the ferry terminal 3 or 4 minutes walk along from the ship.
The Red Liverpool sightseeing bus goes from there as well so it’s easy if you want to go to Anfield as one of them takes you there, the Museum a bit further along is interesting with a nice little cafe as well, if you want nice views for your photos then go to the outdoor area in the Matou next to the ferry and get a snack alfresco overlooking the river and the ship.
The Caribbean Princess holds 3,140 people and is 952 feet long so a few laps around the decks will burn off a few of those calories from all that gorgeous food.
She had a refurbishment in March this year so is nice and fresh still. For those of you who like to talk tonnage she is 112,894 tonne so a decent size all round. She first sailed in April 2004 and has 19 decks so views will not be a problem. This was taken looking down on to the Piazza

She is an easy ship to negotiate with signs everywhere so getting lost although its fun should not be too much of a problem

There are lots of new innovations coming along courtesy of Princess but I am not going to talk about them today. but Ocean medallion is one such innovation and so brand new not many people know about this, I will do another blog about this at another date as its not quite been fully rolled out yet but it looks amazing..and you will just have to wait and see.

I am travelling on the Sapphire Princess next year and was curious about the speciality dining like the Italian Sabatinis but after looking at the Crown grill I think this is the choice for me, $29 to do this and the menu does look lovely, 3 kinds of salt come with the steaks which is a unique point to Princess.

The Marketplace food hall on board is a diners delight with everything you could possibly want and the poshest sandwiches and wraps I have ever seen on a ship. It was spotlessly clean and cutlery was already at the tables with real napkins wrapped around them, the staff were around all the time checking that nothing was out of place, it was lovely.

On the pool decks you can get pizza by the slice or other types of sandwich and something that had meatballs on it, wasn’t too sure what that was though but the slices were HUGE.

Cabins are really nice and the beds are something else, they are putting the new design beds which were designed by a sleep doctor to guarantee a perfect nights sleep and they were so comfy, they also have a pillow menu for different types of sleeper like front or back, ingenious.

As you can see our Bethany Short was pretty quick to try one out

Anyway that for the moment is the Caribbean Princess in a nutshell…to be continued
