Cruising from Liverpool, in heels

Having grown up sailing back and forth from Liverpool to the isle of man as a child in some of the most horrendous seas I wondered if this would be a bad thing, I mean some of the most seasoned sailors used to get sick crossing the Irish sea in a storm so it was with great trepidation I gave it a go on a mini cruise to Dublin, I have to say it wasn’t half bad, it helped that the weather was quite calm, well on the way out it was.

The ship we sailed on which is the Fred Olsen Boudicca was small which we knew but a lot nicer than expected, the cabins were big enough for our needs but with the weather forecast on the way back forecasting high winds i was once again transported in my mind back to my childhood and the old ro ro ferries.

Dublin was as ever amazing and i just love everything there from the posher St Stephens Green to Brown Thomas and the River Liffey looked lovely in the sunshine but my mind was still on the trip home.

We were heading into the Bay of Liverpool when the wind really picked up but although it was rocky it wasn’t half bad, it was then i realised that those old ferries didn’t have stabilisers years ago so i had worried over nothing and i’m going again in September this year but taking in cork as well so it couldn’t have been that bad.

You cant beat a good old sail from Liverpool as the city has everything and the people who live here who are older who sometimes go on these mini cruises say “what get a taxi are you having a laugh, I got my bus pass here and the bus stops at the Pier Head. That will do for me”.

The cruise terminal isn’t as large as Southampton’s but its a lovely setting right in the town centre with the majestic Liver birds watching over you as you board, its picture perfect.

But there is something all us ladies need to know and that is there is a floating landing stage at Liverpool Cruise Terminal so if the tide is out when you are boarding then wear flats as its quite steep, I’ve hung on to the bars in heels going down there before which is amusing but the good thing is if the tide is out when you return then wear heels as its easier to walk uphill. Its fast to get through immigration and its minutes after that you will be aboard so that’s in its favour.

So do you think you would try a cruise from Liverpool?  For our customers who are north of us its a doddle to get to without the trek to Southampton.

There is the Boudicca with Fred Olsen they have some lovely Norwegian cruises from Liverpool

or maybe you could try Cruise Maritime Marco Polo or Magellan, you could do the Summertime gardens and the Seine from Liverpool with the stunning port of Honfleur, its drop dead gorgeous.

this is Honfleur and one of my favourite ports

So time and tide wait for no man so tell me what you think about the pros and cons of sailing from Liverpool, I know what I think.
