How To Get More Out Of Your Cruise Holiday

There’s nothing more frustrating when you fly to a destination to pick up your cruise and then not having any time there to see it. This has happened to me a few times when I’ve sailed from Lisbon, Rome, Trieste, Aruba & Valencia. Ok – you can tick the place off the list to say you’ve been, but you can’t say you’ve seen it & it feels like an opportunity lost.

Some cruise lines enforce a one night pre-cruise stay when flights don’t arrive in time to join a cruise, but often the hotels they provide are airport hotels, so again you’re not in a position to head out & explore the city you’re in.

Imagine sailing to and from Venice and not having the chance to stroll through St Marks Square, seeing the gondolas and having a picture on the Bridge of Sighs. Who would want to drive through Rome, bypassing the Colosseum, Trevi  Fountain & Spanish Steps? What a shame it would be to cruise from Barcelona and miss out on wandering down Las Ramblas, not seeing Sa Grada Familia and missing out on Gaudi’s masterpieces at Park Guell.

The busiest cruise port by far is Miami. You MUST take a walk along the iconic Collins Avenue with its Art Deco buildings and dip your toes in the Atlantic Ocean down at South Beach. With Cuba opening up to more cruise lines how amazing would it be to have a stay in Havana.

If cruising to Alaska I can highly recommend to stay in Seattle. It’s a beautiful city with so much to see & do.

I’m finding that people are getting more & more adventurous choosing their cruise destinations and the number of people booking  Far East & South America cruise & stay holidays are definitely on the up. After a longer flight & with the chance to stay in exotic places like, Rio De Janeiro, Santiago, Singapore, Bejing, Shanghai and Tokyo you’d be mad not to seize the opportunity to stay in one of these fascinating cities.
