Is it wise to take a 4 year old on Cunard??? I now know!

Dancing

So you may remember the other week I told you I was going on a 4 night cruise on the Queen Victoria with my 4 year old daughter, and how I was apprehensive as I didn’t know if it was going to be suitable. Well I’m glad to report back we all had a wonderful time and that overall yes you can.

There is a big difference compared to P&O and RCCL which of course is to be expected, on our sailing there must have been fewer than 10 children on the ship, so we were in the minority but that didn’t stop my daughter making a little friend with which she could terrorize the other customers who were enjoying the Ballroom dancing at the 20’s night at the Black and White Ball.

As soon as we got on the ship we did what every 4 year old wants to do on holiday, we went straight to the pool. Luckily we boarded really early so we were the first ones round the pool, we could splash until our hearts content without having to worry about anyone else. Believe it or not the weather was scorching on our first day (that has to be a first for me when sailing out of Southampton). The pool soon started to fill up and I immediately went into Dad mode, giving the rules for the cruise and explaining to her although she was on the cruise it wasn’t really for kids and that she couldn’t scream, shout, splash or jump in the water if anyone was near us. Now this didn’t really work to be honest and I just apologized a lot. Most people were fine with it and was constantly told not to worry I have grandchildren it’s perfectly fine which was good to hear.

Now one thing I did notice which actually was probably a benefit as soon as we entered a Jacuzzi with a rubber ring and kids toys it did seem to empty quite quickly.

So top tip if you enjoy the Jacuzzi to yourself either take a 4 year old with you or a rubber ring and kids toys and in no time at all you’ll be able to enjoy it all to yourself.

In summary the pool was just fine with a little person.

Dinner was excellent and the staff were great looking after my daughter, every night when we got to our table she had a cushion waiting for her along with some puzzles to keep her busy.

The shows were very good and kept us busy for an hour every night and appealed to a wide audience.

I told you in my last blog how my daughter loves to dance, and dance she did, in fact she ended up having the whole entertainment staff dancing with her which was great. Only on the formal night when my daughter and her friend were dancing were we told they could only dance if we were holding their hands this seemed a little mean as  there was no where else to go and we did ensure they didn’t hamper the serious ballroom dancers!

Overall we had a good time, can you take a 4 year old on a Cunard ship? Yes you can! Would I choose a Cunard ship to take a 4 year old on? Probably not….
