Kids facilities on Independence of the Seas

Guess what! Royal Caribbean are awesome for families with children. That is me utilizing all 15 years of my cruise industry experience right there! Having thoroughly enjoyed their 1st cruise with Celebrity last year on the Eclipse, they were super hyper about sailing on the Independence of the Seas with all of the new facilities they had installed when she went under the knife in May. Firstly, after last years cruise where our youngest daughter wanted to spend every waking minute in the kids club, she only went to the kids club for a 2-hour session on the embarkation day! Our littlest munchkin was far too interested in Splash-Away Bay!

From the 1st time she locked eyes on the kids' water play area, she wanted nothing more than to get her swimming costume on and test out the slides and water jets. On the 3rd day of the cruise, we decided to have a lazy poolside day and it was music to her ears. What makes Royal Caribbean stand out though are the little touches we noticed for their smaller guests. Around the splash area, there are plenty of sun loungers and chairs and we were amazed to see they had mini sunloungers and chair for little ones, a great idea!

The restaurants offered plenty of choice for smaller travellers with all of their usual favourites although our youngest did take a liking to whatever we had ordered typically!

Another touch, which, knowing a stay at home dad, is something that he has brought up in the past as an issue he has struggled with, baby changing facilities in the gents toilets. Thankfully I am past this stage, but they have all singing, all dancing baby changing tables in the gents so responsibilities can be rightly shared.

In between trips to the Ben and Jerry’s ice cream parlour and the sweet shop on the Royal Promenade, our youngest managed to shiff out that they sold plastic building blocks in the shop, of course in the design of the ship. $15 very well spent!
