Norovirus what actually is it??

This word is always a cruise ship nightmare I’m sure but before you let it put you off going on a cruise let me share with you a few facts and tips ;
Norovirus is not a “cruise ship” virus it is not something that is limited to the ships.
The Virus spreads quickly with people in a small area so Schools, hotels restaurants, nursing homes and then obviously cruise ships.
It is a lot more common than people realise in fact the common cold is though only illness more common according to the experts.
The reason you hear so much about the outbreaks of norovirus and why it is so connected with cruise is because the ships have to track illness unlike hotels etc.

The symptoms
The first sign is normally feeling sick and vomiting and diarrhoea , some people may also get a temperature and generally feel feverish .

Prevention
On one of my recent blogs I did an article on the captain’s stopping shaking hands and this is to stop spreading infection. What else can we do to help ourselves and stop spreading the infections.
Don’t avoid the hand sanitiser’s and wash your hands often with hot water and soap.
Stick to bottled water
Don’t share eating utensils and glasses.
Avoid eating uncooked foods .
What to the cruise ships do to prevent spreading
The crew will clean even more thoroughly than usual and use stronger products. Buffet service often switches to manned stations. You may see salt and pepper shakers disappear from tables. Beyond that, crewmembers distribute information to passengers onboard offering precautionary tips.
The other thing which is really difficult but they do ask is that you stay in your cabin if you are ill as this limits the illness spreading.

Why is that any different to another illness wether you are on a ship or hotel
It’s not !!!
