A New Look for Dover Port

Dover cruise Port is to get a facelift with £120 million pound rejuvenation. By the end of 2018 passengers using the port will be able to walk directly from their ship to a new Waterfront and Marina. This is expected to be finished by the end of 2018 and is the biggest single investment ever undertaken in the Dover Port. Visitors will also be able to explore the new Waterfront at their leisure with proposed pedestrian and cycle routes which will link the new development to the Cruise Terminal. There will be Shops, Bars and Restaurants along the Marina.

Dover is the 2nd busiest Cruise Port behind Southampton and has 2 Cruise Terminals. Each Terminal has a 340 metre berth and a third berth of 240 metres is available at Admiralty Pier. Cruise Terminal 1 has already undergone 2 years of renovation and was formerly the Old Marine Railway Station. Terminal 2 was built in 2000, and is a much larger building, where you have panoramic views over the Harbour, the White Cliffs and Dover Castle.

Dover is the home port for Saga Pearl II and Saga Sapphire and Fred Olsen’s Black Watch, Braemar and Balmoral also have sailings from the Port in 2017 on selected dates. Pacific Princess will also have Dover as her homeport while she is in the UK. Dover is well positioned for turnaround visits for cruises to Norway, the Baltic, around Britain, Iceland, the Mediterranean and the Canaries.

Dover also has ample parking facilities for people who wish to leave their Cars at the Port when they Cruise. Dover is also a gateway to London with trains running directly to St Pancras in just 66 minutes so this makes the Port really accessible from anywhere really as most trains will run to London for a connection.

It will be interesting to see what it all looks like when its finished, let’s wait and see.
