I Missed the Murray Mania

hat a predicament I found myself in yesterday.  I had geared myself up for Sunday to stay in and watch the Wimbledon final and cheer on Andy Murray.  I love tennis and to finally have a chance of a Brit winning it was all very exciting and I really was looking forward to it.  Then the great British Weather had to intervene with wall to wall sunshine and the hottest day of the year my plans had been scuppered. My two boys were up and ready early Sunday to make the most of the day so I was torn between Murray and the kids………….Tough but the boys won.  We ended up spending the day at Worcester at Gheluvelt Park which has recently received a lottery grant of £800,000 which has been used to build a new children’s park, a water play area with jets and fountains which was absolutely brilliant on a day like yesterday to cool down in.
We took the dog and a picnic with us and made the most of what was a glorious day.  I tried my hardest to avoid any news or TVs whilst out as my plan was to watch the match when I got back but obviously as he won it was everywhere and I ended up hearing about it on the radio.  I think it is fantastic to finally have a British champion at Wimbledon as it has been a long time coming especially with the near misses with Tim Henman over the years.
If you love tennis like me then you can experience a game at sea on many ships. Don’t get excited it won’t be full sized courts with you playing the grand slam of the century but it is really good fun and a good chance of working off some of those extra helpings you might have had at dinner.  When I sailed with Crystal they had a Paddle Tennis court.  This was great fun and we had a few great matches.  They provided the rackets and balls etc. and there was even a cool box up there with iced water.  The courts were all netted off so there were no chances of you losing the ball overboard or hitting a ball straight into someone’s Pina Colada.  Also cruise lines such as Royal Caribbean will transform the Basketball courts into tennis courts and hold tournaments for the kids to get involved in.
Hopefully the sun will keep shining for us and we can practise our best serves and aces along with a nice glass of Pimms.
