I was lucky enough to be one of the first lot of passengers on board the Anthem of the seas last year when she was launched and had such a lovely time on board, I was wowed by the ship and all its quirky and unique elements it had to offer. So I was very sad to see last week the videos and pictures of this beautiful ship being absolutely battered by storms out in the Caribbean.

It showed chairs and ornaments smashed all over deck, and the complete mess that the storm had caused. The passengers were told to stay in their cabins for 10 hours and basically batten down the hatches.

It must have been absolutely terrifying for them on board and I know I would have been a nervous wreck if I was on there.

I went on the Balmoral in December once and that was in quite rough seas with the ship making some very eary creaking noises and that really put me off sailing in winter periods so goodness knows how these poor passengers coped.

A lot of people on board are angry that the ship sailed at all saying that the weather conditions and forecast predicted the ferocity of the storm and it should never have sailed at all and that the captain had put their lives in danger by sailing in the first place.

The thing is I have to say if they had decided to cancel the cruise and not go or change the ports and itinerary I’m sure there would have been a lot of passengers in uproar about that to,  so either way Royal Caribbean were in a lose lose situation.

Luckily nobody was seriously hurt and four people suffered minor injuries. This is a testament to the captain really that he handled it well in my mind otherwise there could have been far more casualties.

Royal Caribbean have issued an apology and have offered to refund the fares paid for the holiday along with a 50% voucher for any future cruise.

That’s if they ever choose to cruise again – looking at the videos of the waves and how crazy it all was some of them may never set foot on a cruise ship again!!!

Lets just hope they all had a smooth sail home.
