I’m Afraid Of No Ghosts….

Well you heard it from me. I am not afraid of ghosts, I am more afraid of the living then the dead to be honest with you. However, I may just change my mind after this Saturday evening.

Ghosts, paranormal, things that go bump in the night – yes, I do believe in all of this. I know there are a lot of you out there who will laugh at me but I really do believe. Have I seen a ghost? Yes I have and heard them too as my children will testify.  I loved the show “Most Haunted” (until I heard that some of it was made up but that is a different story!) so, I am actually doing a Most Haunted type of vigil at the keep ( the old castle) in Newcastle this Saturday evening. We have to be there at 9pm, bring a camera, and a torch and wait for something to happen! The keep dates back from Roman times and with so much history there I am hoping it will be a good night.

If you believe in all of this then I am sure you will not be surprised to hear there are many cruise ships which are known to be haunted too. If you do not believe I apologise now!

The old Queen Mary ship is probably one of the most famous haunted cruise liners. There have been so many sightings and sounds on her that they now offer a daily ghost tour. But what has been seen on board? Well – The cry of an infant in the 3rd class children’s playground OR a lady in a evening gown dancing alone in the Queens salon OR ladies in vintage bathing suits wondering around the first class swimming pool and wet footprints by the pool even though of course, it is empty!  This comes as no surprise for me as the ship sailed 1,001 sailings over the Atlantic in her time, as well as serving in World war 2 carrying over 765,000 military personnel.

What about newer ships though? Carnival Conquest certainly gets a comment or two, from people been seen in the actual cabin to shadowy figures in the corridors. Another ship with a mention is RCL Brilliance Of The Seas.  From a strange smell in the cabin to the TV turning itself on and off!  Thomson Celebration also gets a mention. One of the stories I read about was in the cinema some people were sitting in one of the top rows, some people walked past them and sat behind them. After a few minutes the people decided to move, looked behind them and no one was there! Or how about the Thomson Destiny ship? Someone woke up in the middle of the night, to see a man with long blond hair in his cabin. The man shouted out, the “figure” jumped into the wardrobes so the man (very daring of him) opened the wardrobe door and no one was there! No, he had not been drinking before you ask!!

Fact or fiction? We will never know. Would love to hear your stories though.
