Are These The best Airlines In The World?

As it is “that time” of year with the travel industry as a whole churning out the gongs we come to the best airline awards. A tough award I think as let’s face it, there are many airlines out there who are not really that great for different reasons, let’s see if you agree or disagree with the latest batch!

This may come as a big surprise to some of you but the winner overall of best airline is Air New Zealand. They have been given this award because of it’s in-flight innovations, financial performance, environmental leadership and commitment to a young fleet. I must say I have flown with them and did think they were very good. Then we have Qantas, Singapore Airlines, Cathy Pacific, Virgin Atlantic, British Airways, Eithad, All Nippon, Eva Air and Lufthansa.  Interesting that the 2 UK airlines do not get any awards as such, just in the list.

One of the awards was first class travel and Eithad wins hands down for it’s best first class cabins. Flyers can opt for The Residence suite, a three bedroom ‘penthouse in the sky’ with its own butler and chef for approximately $38,000 (£26,000). Wow!! Can you imagine having that amount of money to spend just on a flight? With a living room, separate bedroom and ensuite shower room, it is the only three-room suite on a commercial airline, designed for two people travelling together. – No words can describe really what that would be like!

Looking at the list it is interesting to see that neither Emirates or Qatar is mentioned however lovely to see Eva Air get a mention.  I have travelled on alot of airlines in my time, and must say Eva Air were fantastic. I flew with them to Bangkok, again not a airline that you would consider, but you should!

All in all a good list of airlines, however of course, not everyone will agree with them. Also, it is all very well saying who is the best airline or who has the best food (interestingly not in this batch of awards) but I think what most people would like the airlines to do is sort out the seating arrangements. Most airlines are now charging you to pre book a seat but that is never 100% guaranteed. If you are not able to pre pay or don’t want to, then surely these airlines should seat people together. The amount of times I hear of families or couples split up on the aircraft – why? That is my rant on airlines, great to see you are getting a “gong” but please sort out the seating allocations!

Let me know if you agree on the latest winners – I would love to hear from you!
