A Single Dream?

For all of you single travellers out there, I feel your pain.  First of all you pluck up the courage to get away on holiday, which I think for a first holiday on your own takes guts. Then you find the cruise you want to find 9 times out of 10 you are paying the most ridiculous price, in fact it would be cheaper if you paid for 2!

Sound familiar?  I really do not know why the cruise lines charge so much for a single person. Well, actually I do. They are all about making money (lets face it) as if a single person occupy’s a double cabin, they are loosing the other person’s spend as it were.

It does frustrate me when I am looking for a single, so my dream for you all would be this….

A cruise line which would have a ship purely for single travellers. All cabins would be single. A choice of cabins too from inside to balcony. Dining room would have meal times where you can sit with anyone, you would be all single travellers anyway so a great way to meet everyone. The cruise would possibly include all drinks and tips. There would be plenty of entertainment during the day – could be quizzes or talks, that kind of thing. Plenty of sun beds on plenty of sun decks – no rushing around to find one. Great entertainment in the evenings. A bit of dancing (proper that is) so those that like that can never be short of a dance partner. Lastly price would be a decent and fair one.

Yes, this would be in a ideal world and yes before you say it there are cruise lines who do try to accommodate you single guests, but there are not enough, so by having a ship purely for single travellers would that work?

Firstly you would have to get a smaller ship to “test the waters” as it were. Being realistic the dates could not be throughout the year, so I am thinking perhaps 4 departures ranging from May to October.

Would it work? There are plenty of you out there but would 4 departures in the year say with a ship holding 700 passengers be full? Probably not, but I would love to see it happen! Would be good if someone like Fred Olsen (for example) tried it out even for just one departure and see what kind of interest they get.

A very daring and probably unrealistic dream, one day, it could happen!

Till next time x
