Can I smoke on my cruise?

Smoking is a very emotive subject but one which is very important to a lot of people. If you are a smoker, you are not going to stop just because you are on holiday and it is important to know before booking how easy it will be. The last thing you want to do is board a ship to find out you can only smoke when on land.

Don’t worry though it is not that drastic – currently you can smoke on the majority of cruise ships, the only ones that I am aware of that ban it completely are Hainmark  Line and Pearl Sea Cruises both of which are very niche cruise lines and probably not ever heard of by the majority of UK cruisers.

For all of the major cruise lines smoking is still permitted on board but only in designated areas. Generally ships provide designated smoking areas on outside decks, a cigar bar for smoking in the warmth and some even allow it in the casino. All of the cruise lines have their smoking policies listed on the websites and in brochures so it is easy to research.

In terms of smoking in your cabin, this is now banned by everyone. However the following cruise lines still allow you to smoke on your balcony.

Thomson
Holland America Line
Seabourn

If you are a frequent smoker then these are the cruise lines to look at  and fortunately there is a good cross section of cruise lines here, from 4*  through to 6* , English, Italian or American,  and with ships that attracting a more mature customer or younger clientele.
