Weekend in the Lakes

I have just returned back from a long weekend in the Lake District with my family and we had a wonderful time there. We left Friday morning and drove to Lancaster where we had a 2 night stay at the Holiday Inn, this is not in the Lakes but about half an hour away so a good base and not as expensive as staying right by the Lakes. We drove that day to Morecambe on the coast and spent a couple of hours there with the kids entertained at a near by Happy Mount Park and we ended up eating fish & chips on the promenade. We went with some friends  from Germany and they enjoyed the experience. The next day after breakfast at the hotel we drove to Lake Windermere and to the main town called Bowness on Windermere, very picturesque and from there we took a little cruise on the Lake all the way to Ambleside where we had lunch. We were fortunate to have lovely sunshine and quiet warm weather. That wasn’t the case the next day when it was raining practically all day long and pretty cool. We drove to Kendall where we did some shopping and then to Coniston where we had a nice walk (in the rain) to see the pretty lake. In the evening we had a long drive back home, about 4 hours. The kids were asleep in the back. Overall we had a fantastic weekend there. I recommend!
