Rudesheim to Nuremberg

Thanks for tuning in again. As promised this week i was going to tell you a little more about the ports. As mentioned i was covering the Rudesheim to Nuremberg sector of the Magnificent Europe itinerary with APT.

We didn’t get lucky with the weather this day unfortunately, especially as i had selected the gondola ride for my Freedom Of Choice excursion. However the views were still beautiful. On route both ways we could see people picking the grapes from the vineyard below us. The vineyards were everywhere. The little town below us was very charming and has some lovely little shops. APT had a road train that ran between the town and the River Port.

Our next stop was Miltenberg. Lovely little place. The town was spared from the destruction of World War 2. You get the feeling of what old-world village life was like before the war. Here we had the option to do a hike through the Franconian Vineyard and learn about the local wines or there was the tour through the Town which i had opted to do. It was interesting learning the history of the town and coming across the oldest pub in Europe.

Now for this next stop many were getting rather excited, not for the 18th Century Palace of Wurzburg or the marvelous Medieval town Of Rothenburg. It was for the best Christmas Christmas shop ever. Oh yes why would you want to visit a family owned farm for a tour and then sit down to morning tea, or take a trip up to the palace once owned by the Prince-Bishop of Wurzburg. No not when you can take an interesting tour of the town of Rothenburg then spend like crazy in Kathe Wohlfahrt Christmas Store. I managed to sneak a few pictures before getting told off by the staff as no pictures were allowed. We still had time to wander down to the park and have a mulled wine whilst admiring the view. Well i sat with the others while they drank mulled wine as i don’t really do alcohol.

Next on to Bamberg. This one was my favorite. This was another of the few German Cities that wasn’t destroyed during WW2. Here we explored the old town which included the Town Hall and the River Regnitz.

And i finally stop was in Nuremberg. As our flight wasn’t until later on we had a Historic tour arranged before being taken to the Airport. we were shown around a few WW2 sites including the Reich Party Rally Grounds, 900 year old ramparts and the Imperial Castle. I found this part very interesting. They also had a brilliant market in the main square. Not my favorite place as i found it the most modernized out of the other ports. But hey a lot of rebuilding had to be done after the war.

I must say i’m very eager to carry on down the Danube now or even the Rhine. Have you done River Cruising before? Are you looking at trying it?

Please get in touch if i can help you with your requirements. 0333 300 2656. [email protected].

Thank you.
