History, Beaches And A Bit of Witchcraft!

Now we are starting our travel plans for this year, I have been asked by a few of my lovely clients where I would recommend? Now, that is a hard one as I love a lot of destinations, either in Europe or further afield. However, after a bit of thinking I have come up with Boston and New England. I really do love the States and the huge differences in the country. One of my favourite places is Boston, you can stay here for a couple of days, then catch a cruise from there to some really lovely ports.

Boston itself has a lot of history as it was the birthplace of the American revolution. The city has great open spaces, the lovely heritage trail walk goes around the city, interesting in terms of the revolution history. It is of course a really modern city but very different to a lot of the American cities with the history aspect.

From Boston you can hire a car and get up to the lovely sites in Cape Cod.  One of my favourite places is Sandwich, which is really traditional with a fantastic beach. Or you could try Hyannis which is where the Kennedy family still live. This actually for me was the place that did disappoint a little as I was expecting it to be something a bit different but it was a bit too touristy for me!  There is a museum there packed with Kennedy memorabilia if like me you like that kind of thing.

The most popular destination to visit in this are is of course Salem, home of the infamous witch trials.  You can get there by car or like us take a short catamaran trip.  It really is like going back in time in “some” of the streets.  You can see where people were buried, where the witch trials were held and the buildings which of course are all meant to be still haunted.

This part of the coast line is really fantastic and most certainly worth extending your stay either before your cruise or after.  The cruise lines which depart from Boston are mostly Holland America and they have great itineraries such as Canada and New England which really does take in probably most of the places you want to see. NCL also sail from here but only go to Bermuda – again a nice cruise to take in perhaps, after your history and culture.  If you wait till later in the year you could try a Royal Caribbean travelling from Boston to Fort Lauderdale.

In my opinion, this area is certainly worth trying out. In the summer the weather is really pleasant and if you go in the Autumn, the colours are spectacular!

If I can be of any help, you know where I am.

Till next time x
