Olden, Norway With Fred Olsen !

After our exciting trip to Flaam in Norway, the next day we were off to Olden.

We arrived in Olden early in the morning, both of us looked out of our little ports holes in the cabin and the views were breathtaking, we rushed to get ready and went out on deck to have a good look and the views were just amazing.

Olden is a little village which is located at the mouth of the Oldeelva river at the northern end of the Oldedalen valley on the southern shore of the Nordfjorden.

Now I and Ella had not been to Olden before and decided not to book any excursions thinking we could get off the ship and do our own thing, well, to be honest, we should have booked an excursion.

About 10 am we decided to get off and have a little mooch around and to be honest there wasn’t much for us to see. We ventured off to the little shopping centre but not much there except a few little shops, then we got back on board.

Later that day one of the ladies that we had become friends with on the cruise had been on one of the excursions to see the Briksdal Glacier which is a journey through the beautiful Olden Valley up to the frozen cascade of the spectacular Briksdal Glacier, the best known of the Jostedal Glacier’s many icy arms, which she told us it was amazing and well worth every penny.

Such a shame myself and Ella did not do our homework before cruising to Olden then we would have known to book an excursion, there is obviously a lot more to see than what we did, a massive lesson learnt.

If you are cruising to Olden please don’t make the same mistake as we did, make sure you book an excursion with the ship, it is well worth it!
