A sobering thought – 38% of British holidaymakers who are going overseas this summer do not have any travel insurance for their trip, according to ABTA…

ABTA in conjunction with the Foreign Office is encouraging holidaymakers to take out insurance as soon as they book their holiday or cruise, making sure that the insurance covers any medical conditions or activities they plan to do, ABTA is also advising travellers to keep a copy of their policy number and insurers contact details.

37% said they didn’t think they needed travel insurance and more than a quarter said it was a risk they were willing to take! – now maybe this is an age thing but I am shocked by these figures considering the rates which insurance providers charge nowadays, sure if you have a pre-existing medical condition you would expect to pay a higher rate, but never the less…

The cost of medical treatment or repatriation can run into thousands of pounds, leaving people without it vulnerable.

In general the most vulnerable are the ones who are refusing to take out insurance – the young travellers who don’t like to or think they can’t afford to buy it – in reality, you can’t afford not to buy it.

Another surprising fact research also finds that only a third of people who have brought the insurance in the past 12 months leave all the policy details at home, You need to take out a policy as soon as you start thinking of travelling, so you get the right one for your needs and the destinations you are travelling to, making sure you get right at the beginning can save you a lot of trouble and inconvenience should you ever need to use it. Don’t take the risk, take out travel insurance and make sure it covers you for everything.
