Odyssey of the Seas

The big news from the Royal Caribbean camp is the announcement of their 27th ship, Odyssey of the Seas, due to be launched in the 2nd half of 2020.

Specifically designed for “Island Hopping” she will be initially sailing from Fort Lauderdale before moving to Rome for the Summer of 2021.

As the second of her kind, Odyssey will be a Quantum Ultra Class ship, following in the footsteps of her sister ship Spectrum of the Seas. She features a two-level pool deck, a 300 feet above sea level viewing experience in the North Star, the Sky Pad bungee trampoline, the RipCord skydiving simulator and a Laser Tag faceoff in “Clash for the Crystal City”.

It is not all about daredevil excitement especially if you prefer life at a slower pace. As with all Royal Caribbean ships, Odyssey of the Seas will have an adults-only Solarium. On Odyssey, the space will have swimming pools, hot tubs, day beds and a full-service bar.

Meanwhile, if food is your thing then be prepared to be spoilt.  Featuring a mouth-watering choice of eateries, you can sample the flavours of the Far East in Teppanyaki, classic Italian dishes at Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen & Wine Bar, Chop’s Grille for a steakhouse experience, if sushi is your thing then go to Izumi or visit the Chef’s Table for a five-course feast. Other options are the El Loco Fresh which is located on the pool deck, ideal for “grab-and-go” with a Mexican flavour, Playmakers Sports Bar offers “pub grub” or the amazing Wonderland. This features an Alice in Wonderland-inspired setting and gives you a  unique dining experience with a dreamscape menu of adventurous dishes.

So Royal Caribbean has raised the bar again in this battle of the mega-ships with another game-changing vessel. Are these your cup of tea, or like me do you prefer the smaller more intimate ships?

Is bigger always better, or is size really not everything?
