LAS RAMBLAS IS A MUST VISIT WHEN IN BARCELONA

This has to be one of my favourite cities and I have been there many times.

Many Mediterranean cruises include Barcelona as a port of call but it’s quite often a base port for cruise ships. So, when choosing a cruise that either starts or ends in this magnificent city, you should seriously think about extending your holiday there with either a few nights before or after your cruise?

The city is a must see destination if you are cruising the Mediterranean and especially if your cruise either begins or ends there.

Street art in Barcelona is amazing. There is something to satisfy all tastes in this city.

Barcelona is most famous for Las Ramblas, the very long main street which almost faces you as you leave the cruise terminal, so it’s ideally located. It’s a very short walk there and one of my favourite stops in this atmospheric place is the superb market, located halfway up the street. This has to be one of the best markets I have seen in the big cities of Europe.

Going further, you simply cannot be in Barcelona without visiting the very spectacular Sagrada Familia Cathedral.

With all big cities, you often have to leave the city to really get the most spectacular view and Barcelona is no exception. Head for Montjuic Hill where the views of the city are unbelievable.

When it comes to dining, the choices are limitless and I would advise that you ignore the obvious tourist spots. Instead head to a Tapas bar where there are mainly locals. This is what Spain is known for. Little nibbles and tasty bites, but a word of caution…   try and avoid Las Ramblas. Here you pay top price and get nothing special for it, other than being able to say you had a meal on Las Ramblas. Go to one of the many little streets just off the main Las Ramblas for cheaper, more authentic cuisine.
