Some tips how to save your money on a cruise

I Have listed some good tips for saving money before and after booking your cruise worth reading:

1. Try repositioning cruises, which are always priced cheaper than a standard cruise and usually half the price. there may be a few days at sea but still you are getting a relaxed cruise, plus you only need one way flight, so you will save on flying as well.

2.Always look for free upgrades, where the cruise line will sell the outside for the same price of an inside or a balcony for the same price of an outside, quiet a few cruise lines are offering it on a regular basis. Also always accept the free automatic upgrade option, you never know!

3. If you are going to dine in some speciality restaurants whilst on board, some cruise lines offer packages where you save if you book it in advance before you go, Royal Caribbean and NCL do it. It also works for SPA packages.

4.Don’t be tempted to buy a drinks package (unless it’s included free) from the cruise line as most people will struggle to keep up the drinking pace just to break even on these packages, however for kids it is usually worth it for the soda packages.

5. Most cruise lines do allow you to bring your own drinks on board, usually 2 or 3 bottles, which you can consume in the cabin without having to buy theirs which is a lot more expensive.

6. Always check the duty free prices on board as they can be more expensive than buying on shore plus ask before you buy as some cruise lines will add 15%-20% charge on the price tag when you pay the cashier. Be very careful.

7. Consider cruising on a megaship as some can hold 5000-6000 passengers and that’s a lot of cabins to fill and many times they will reduce the prices to fill them.

8. Resist temptation of buying either from the art auction, one day jewellery sales and other temptations such as teeth whitening .

9. Use the laundry services on board, many cruise lines have free self service launderettes and also the cost of dry cleaning on board for suits and jackets is cheaper than back home, so towards the end of the cruise it is worth doing the dry cleaning before going back home, you also save the petrol of going to the dry cleaners to drop/pick up your suit.

10. Finally, when to book. It’s not always right at the last minute that you will get a bargain, most cruise lines panic if they can’t sell the cabins weeks before the cruise sail date and they reduce the prices about 6-8 weeks before, then lots of people book it and nearer to the time it goes up in price or sell out!
