River Cruising..Your Handy Guide

Since I came back from the River Convention in Amsterdam in November I have developed a fascination and love of River Cruising.  I will be going on a River Cruise of my own at some point this year as well so I am very excited about that.

I have learnt a lot about the world of River Cruising over the last few months so I thought I would share just a few tips in this – my own Handy Guide To River Cruising.

River Cruises are the fastest growing cruise market and are getting bigger, better and more luxurious.  River Cruising has opened up to everyone so anyone can have the opportunity to sail down river in style and comfort.

Biggest Name In River Cruising

Viking are one of the biggest names in River Cruising.  They go for intimacy and comfort above all else.  They are superb value for money with return flights from the UK, all on board meals and drinks with lunch and dinner included and daily excursions all included in the price

Choosing the right river to cruise along is probably more important than picking the right ship!  With so many rivers to choose from here is what I think are the top five rivers in the world:

The Rhone – The most tranquil River with breathtaking landscapes

The Mekong – River journey of a lifetime exploring the Far East taking in spectacular and beautiful landscapes

The Danube is one of the most popular rivers to cruise as it flows through many of Europe’s most fascinating countries and cities.  Also there is no lengthy flight involved as it is close to home.  You will sail through countries ranging from Germany and Austria to Slovakia, Serbia and Romania so it is a perfect way to discover several parts of Europe that you may not have been lucky enough to see.
