My Enchanting Rhine Experience with AMAWaterways Part 2

This blog is all about the second part of my River Cruise on the AmaKristina with AMAWaterways.  This part will focus on my personal favourite places I visited whilst on the River Cruise.

Breisach, Germany

Population:16,000

Location: Half way between Freiburg and Colmar

My Mum and I decided to take a stroll in to the town as it was only a 10 minute walk from where the ship was moored.  It was a lovely little town with lots of boutiques and coffee shops.

Here you could go on a free excursion in to Freiburg but because we both had been there before we decided to do our own thing and had a lovely morning exploring this little town.

Strasbourg, France

Population: 65.4 million

Size: 543,965 square km

This was my personal favourite out of all the places we visited.  We did a tour of the city which was very well organised and the guide was very informative and knew so much of the history of the city.

We were taken on a walking tour to start off with through the streets which were mostly pedestrianized.  The buildings were very traditional and it felt like stepping back in time.

We were given tickets which were included to go in to the Cathedral where we got to see the world famous Astronomical Clock.  It was an amazing sight.

Rudesheim, Germany

Population: 9000

Interesting Fact: Home of the famous “Reisling” Wine

We had a lovely tour of this charming German town.  We started off riding in a Gondola to the top of the hills were we had spectacular views over the town and the Rhine.

This was followed by a wine tasting where we sampled some of the local wines.  Unfortunately due to the cost of the Reisling we were unable to try this one.

In the afternoon we sailed through the Rhine Gorge experiencing more stunning scenery and sampling a Rudesheimer Coffee which is coffee with brandy and cream.  Delicious

Cologne, Germany

Population: 81.5 million

Size: 357,022 square km

The City Centre was only a 10 minute walk from where we were moored so we walked in to the city.  My mum and I found a lovely cafe in the cathedral square where we enjoyed another Rudesheimer Coffee and the largest ice cream sundae I had seen!

We loved having a shopping day here and certainly made the most of it!

Well that is it these were my highlights of my first River Cruise.
