My Enchanting Rhine Experience with AMAWaterways Part 1

I have just returned from a wonderful week on board the AMAKristina sailing from Basel in Switzerland along the Rhine to Amsterdam.

This was my first River Cruise and wow what an amazing experience.  I flew in from Heathrow in to Basel and then had a transfer to take me to the boat and was immediately amazed by what a stunning boat she was.

Our cabin was not ready so we left our luggage with the friendly crew and had a drink at a cafe at the port.  Being Switzerland I was not too surprised that two halves of beer was 9 euros!

Finally we could get to our cabin.  We had a French Balcony and although the cabin was small there was plenty of storage and was perfect for my Mum and I and we could not wait to wake up to the stunning views each day.

In the afternoon we enjoyed a glass of champagne as the crew were introduced to us.  This was followed shortly after by cocktail hour which is included in the cost of the cruise.

Now on to dinner on board.  The food was delicious and it was beautifully presented each time.  Each meal was made up of different courses so you could never go hungry!

Meal times were very flexible on board.  For early risers pastries were served in the lounge form around 6.30am. Main breakfast was normally between 7.30 and 9.30am in the restaurant which was buffet style.  For late risers there were pastries served in the lounge up to around 11am.  Lunch was served in the restaurant normally from around 12 noon to 2pm  or if you preferred a lighter lunch there was an option in the lounge of sandwiches, soup and cake.  Afternoon tea was served around 4pm which included sandwiches and cakes.  During lunch and dinner all wine and beer was included and there was a self service coffee machine you could use 24 hours a day so you could never go hungry or thirsty!

The next part of my blog will be about the itinerary itself and the beautiful places I visited.

If this has whetted your appetite to try a river cruise please contact me on 0333 300 2825 or [email protected] and I will be happy to share my personal experience and find the river cruise for you.

Until next time Happy Cruising!
