My Amazing Azamara Adriatic Journey – Part 2

After having a fantastic nights sleep in the very comfortable beds and the pillows they provided we arrived in the historical and picturesque Croatian Island of Hvar. But first it was breakfast so I decided to try ‘Discoveries Restaurant’ which is the main restaurant on the ship which is waiter service, the food was fantastic and there was plenty of choice on the menu but I got to admit I do prefer doing a buffet style for breakfast over been waited on.

As the port is very small in Hvar we were tendered in by lifeboats which took no more than 5 minutes. The heart of the Old Town is centered round the 13th century St. Stephens Square with the hilltop fortress overlooking the port, around which you will find inviting cafes, restaurants and shops and the Landmark Venetian St. Stephens Cathedral. The town itself was bustling and beautiful and easy to get round, for the less energetic there is plenty of bathing spots to top up your tan or take a dip in the crystal clear waters.

After spending a few hours in Hvar I decided to take the tender back to the ship and have lunch back on board, with the rest of the my day I soaked up the rays of the sun with the occasional dip in to the pool to cool down. As it was the 4th July – Independence Day, the evening entertainment was centered round this with a Glenn Miller tribute act and in the Living Room (later bar/nightclub) there was a July 4th party.

Our next port of call on my Adriatic Journey was Split which is the second largest city in Croatia with a population of well over 400, 000, the port itself is very busy with not just cruise ships, but there are plenty of ferries that serve the north and south Adriatic, Italy and Greece. Split was again beautiful and picturesque with the fortress like complex Diocletian’s Palace as it’s centre which was erected by the Roman emperor in the 4th century. Within its sprawling remains the white stone walls and under its courtyards and galleries are plentiful of shops, bars, cafes, cathedrals, hotels and several houses.

Later that evening was our ‘Azamazing Evening’ which is an authentic and bespoke event exclusively for Azamara guests and is included in the price of your cruise. The event itself was held in the magnificent grounds of an art museum and we had pleasure of watching the acclaimed cellist Ana Rucner who blends classical music with contemporary stylings. The event which lasted just over an hour was absolutely breathtaking and I even managed to get a photo of us together (really didn’t give her no choice!)
