Celebrity Cruises To Replace Formal Nights With Evening Chic!

Celebrity Cruises has announced from the 04th December 2015 that formal nights will be a thing of the past and replaced by ‘Evening Chic Nights’. So the formal night dress code will be a lot more relaxed on the Celebrity fleet with no jacket or tie required on these nights.

So what is ‘evening chic and what to wear?’ –  Evening chic will be dressier than the smart casual wear that is worn on most evenings but won’t be as dressy as formal wear. Women should feel comfortable wearing a cocktail dress, skirt, trousers, or designer/smart jeans with an elegant top. Men should feel comfortable wearing trousers or smart jeans with a dress shirt or button-down shirt or sweater, with blazers optional.  What will not be accepted are ripped jeans,  shorts and t-shirts being permitted in the dining room on evening chic nights. So on 6 night cruises or less there will one evening chic night, on 7 night cruises or longer there will be at least two evening chic nights. All other nights are “Smart Casual.”

The reason for the change of dress code is apparently due to an evolving passenger mix. Brian Abel, vice president of hotel operations for Celebrity Cruises explained. “As we’re watching our guests, we see this is how they’re vacationing. They are becoming more casual but at the same time, still sophisticated. They still want great food and great service, but they want to experience it in a more relaxed, casual way.”

Since Celebrity have announced this decision opinions have been split, with some people stating that they are downing their standards to appeal to more the mass market. Others feel it’s a great move to feel more comfortable and relaxed on their cruise.

So a bold move by Celebrity in this lucrative but competitive market.

What do you think? – Have Celebrity made the right decision in abolishing formal nights?
