Within the next few weeks Royal Caribbean’s Ovation of the Seas and Harmony of the Seas will be setting off from Southampton for the first time. These two ships alone will have between them 9,500 berths and there looks like there is no let up as in 2019 there will be a record breaking 40,000 berths introduced, with rumours of more being added in the near future.
So I thought it would be interesting to look to see who and what is on order in the coming months and the years to come, along with the estimated cost to build, gross tonnage and total berths.

So as you can see there is a lot of ships on order with a lot of berths to fill over the next few years. I know cruising is still a growth industry but with all these extra berths, will these cruises be half full and soulless or will there be reduced in price so significantly that cruising becomes even more mass market and loses that special appeal.
What do yo think are these cruise companies flooding the market with new cruise ships every year?
