MSC to now Include Gratuities

Good news for all MSC Cruise lovers…. Today we have seen a big announcement from the Italian Cruiseline.  All bookings from today will now include your Tips, Service Charges, Gratuities whatever you call them thats it they are now included in with the cost of your cruise!

Having checked prices today I can see the cruise prices are still great value and have not increased as you may expect.

This is great news for me as when I did my caribbean cruise for 10 nights last year the added tip worked out at $50 a day $12.50pp for the 4 of us, So $500!!  Im sorry but no matter how fabulous the service was onboard I thought this was way too much. I removed them and tipped at the end of the cruise an amount I thought was deserved.

So now there will be no more awkward asking the cabin steward for a form to remove them or being questioned as to why you have not had good service…. they have finally realised us Brits do not like tipping and so have now joined the likes of P&O and Marella in now including them in the price of your cruise. I feel its now only a matter of time before the other cruise lines follow suit and build this into the cost too.

Passengers who had booked prior to todays announcement will still have them automatically added onboard.

What are your thoughts on this new move? How do you feel about paying Gratuities?

  1. Yes, good news but then the question of the integrity of the company is asked. Will the staff benefit from this or will say 60% of the increase in fares go to the company and 40% to the crew/ staff an overall fare increase under the guise of removing gratuities. I am very distrusting when it comes to cruise operators. Everything they do and I mean everything is geared towards added income. We have been cruising for many years and have seen standards lowered, service and facilities chipped away at bit by bit, what used to be included in the standard cruise package has now been eroded and charged extra for. Shame really. We go through these stages where we feel ripped off and vow never to cruise again but of course we do because it is after all a wonderful way to see the world. Time will tell and I do hope the crew get their rightful share.

  2. I have already booked with MSC but I will be going to reception to ask to opt out for as you say you can pay for another cruise with what you pay for gratuities. I prefer to give tips myself.

  3. I assume that customers who have booked before this date will still be able to cancel the tips/service charges etc. which look as though they will still be added.

  4. We paid for our trip Today!
Does this Megan we sill have to pay 12,50 fee for 3 persons? Or can we avoid that?
We board with 3 personen,, as a family on the MSc in the carribean from 4th August…

    Please help us.

  5. Very good news. Hope Olsen, Cunard etc. follow suit. Perhaps they should all look at the drinks package prices next!

  6. ” Great idea” !! — just add this charge to the cost of the cruise so you won’t be able to take it off.
Do they think we are all stupid ???

  7. should be customers choice as we always tip the staff who look after our accommodation, serve our tables, waiters and cleaners
