The best holiday for Dogs

Welcome to my lil puppy!!! She is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel of 12 weeks and we called her Miah. Here’s a photo of her in all her glory.

I never ever had a dog and I can’t believe how much attention and looking after they need, she’s just like a baby who needs to be guided constantly. I’m reading books about training and constantly looking on the internet for interesting tips and useful information, I realise now how little I knew about dogs and what wonderful animals they really are. To be honest, I have never been too keen to have a dog in the house but my husband decided we were having one and that was it. I have to say that now we have Miah my perception towards dogs has completely changed and I am completely in love with her.  I am now worried about leaving her and going on holiday as i don’t know how she will cope, and i don’t really know how to help with the separation anxiety that is a very common problems in dogs. If anyone has any good advice, please let me know.

So i have been thinking what holidays would be dog friendly and since i love cruising, and as you know i am a fan of Cunard, I thought why not a cruise! One of the destinations still to be ticked off my list is New York, and thanks to Cunard i can take her too on a transatlantic crossing there and back! I have been looking into it and i thought i would share this information with those of you who like me want to take your dog on holiday with you.

There is a procedure to be observed for all dogs travelling across the Atlantic, and you best start 8 month before you are due to travel as it’s a lengthy procedure. The UK has very strict rules especially when it comes to travelling animals. Before booking, each dog must have a pet passport, be micro-chipped and given a rabies jab 21 days before departure. Flea, tick and tapeworm treatments must also be administered 24-48 hours before boarding and a vet-signed health declaration produced. Assistance and guide dogs are allowed to stay in the cabin with their owners but cannot mix with the dogs in the kennels.
