Visit the amazing city of Barcelona

Barcelona is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. I have visited the city many times and there are lots of places and attractions to visit.

Here is a list of my favourite attractions…

Sagrada Familia

The number 1 tourist attraction in Barcelona is the famous unfinished church of La Sagrada Famila designed by Gaudi. The church inside is completed and you can purchase tickets for approx. 15 Euros. If you are visiting during peak times my advice is to purchase tickets in advance because it can be very busy. If you prefer to admire the structure from the outside this will take about 30 minutes. Only 8 towers of the 18 spires are finished even after work began over 100 years ago! I wonder if work will be completed by 2026 as planned. This will be the anniversary of Gaudi’s death in 1926. Fingers crossed the target is met!

Las Ramblas

Barcelona’s most famous street is Las Ramblas.

You have to experience this traffic free street where street art meet market stalls and café bars. I love to watch the world go by enjoying a cold beer from one of the bars along the street. There is always something going on! A juggler entertained us and he was excellent! Everyone was enjoying his performance and gave generously when his hat came to collect his well-earned tips! Las Ramblas starts at Plaza Catalunya and ends at the monument of Columbus which is just before you arrive at the harbour.

Top tip… Watch your bags.. Pick-pockets are also famous in this part of Barcelona.

Picasso Museum

The famous Pablo Picasso lived in Barcelona for most of his life. If you like art this is a must see. Even though his famous paintings are not displayed you can see his early sketches and other paintings which give you an insight as to how he developed as an artist. The entrance fee is 11 Euros, expect a queue in the high season. If you book an excursion you skip the queue.

Camp Nou Experience

For all you football fans! If you cannot experience a home match then a visit to the museum and stadium is well worth it. The stadium attracts millions of visitors every year. The collection of trophy’s and photographs is amazing to see even for non-football fans like me!

If Barcelona is a port of call on your cruise then you may have to limit your sightseeing to just 2 of these attractions. If it is your first time to Barcelona then I would recommend you to take a trip on the city bus. It is a hop on hop off bus so you can visit what you want or just sit back and enjoy the ride and sights of this amazing city.

The port of Barcelona is very close to the city centre so if you prefer to walk then this city is perfect. Just remember to wear comfy shoes. If your ship docks further out of the centre a courtesy bus is provided by most cruise lines.

Barcelona is popular as part of a cruise and stay package so you can experience all this city has to offer and stay in one of the hotels of your chosen location.

Is the weather always warm and sunny in Barcelona? It has been every time I have visited. Even in November! Maybe I was just lucky but the locals agreed saying that the city seemed to be a sun trap!

Have you been to Barcelona?

What is your favourite attraction?

I would love to hear from you

Rosie xx
