Price promise is this as good as it seems ?

You may already know that P&O and Cunard offer customers peace of mind by offering a price promise but is this all it appears to be ?

I actually think it is very misleading and is causing a lot of confusion and upset within the industry and with their customers and has understandably created many complaints.
They created a late booking market for themselves last year when they slashed the prices on their cruises at the last minute and have since found that their customers are obviously now reluctant to book early and risk paying a lot more than people who book last minute.
There is nothing worse than sitting at dinner with another couple who have paid a lot less for their cruise and to make matters worse are probably in a better cabin grade.
So to try and give confidence to their customers to book early they promote the Price Promise.
However what they don’t make clear is that they do not apply to Getaways which is the promotional offer they use to reduce their prices at the last minute.
So basically they have covered their back with this loophole so they can actually reduce the price without honouring the difference.
I understand their reasons are because the getaway fares have different more restricted booking conditions such as the cabin number is not allocated at the time of booking and payment required in full but this did not make any difference to a lady I spoke with last week who had booked on the vantage fare only for a getaway fare to be introduced 1 week later. She hadn’t been given a cabin at the time of booking and had paid in full anyway.
If P&O want to offer this price promise then great but they need to make it a lot clearer as to the restrictions imposed.
We all know that holiday prices are fluid, cruising is no different than land based holiday packages.
The difference is we all know that once we have booked we are at a fixed price so if the fare increases we have benefited but if it goes down it’s one of those things but at least we have booked and known are holiday is secure.
They should take a leaf out of Royal Caribbean’s book who review bookings individually and sometimes honour a lower price if it reduces after booking ( I wrote about this a few weeks ago )
However there is no misleading advertising supporting this so there is no confusion to their loyal customers who I am sure will continue to cruise with them for many years.
