Holiday vaccinations

I am due to go on holiday in 6 weeks to the Dominican Republic with my husband and 2 children.

We booked a family appointment at the doctors as I wasn’t sure if we were up to date with our vaccinations and knew our children would need a few.

They booked an hour long appointment for this and we were only there for 20 minutes so no wonder it’s impossible to get appointments nowdays !!

I was told we all needed Typhoid and my children needed Hepatitis but was so shocked when I was told there is a national shortage for the Typhoid vaccination because they have sent our supplies to 3rd world countries.

I have no problem with helping other countries but surely we should be treated as priority before giving away all of our own supplies.

I can’t imagine many other countries but be so quick to do the same.

Apparently they offer this now on a risk assessment basis so if we were going backpacking they would have given this to us but because we are staying in a 5* hotel the risk is lower,  however there is obviously still some risk to us.

They did however offer this for Emily and Georgia so at least they are protected .

I am sure we will be fine and when I’m relaxing in the Caribbean it will be the last thing on my mind anyway.
