Shaken not stirred…. seriously mate i can’t stir it

Royal Caribbean are known for a lot of ‘First At Sea’ but probably one of their most famous would be B1-0 and N1-C. These guys are the robotic bar tenders at the Bionic Bar. Not only are they a first at sea but they are a first in the World. I must say they are pretty impressive and are fun to watch whilst your waiting for your drink order. I first saw them on board Anthem of the Seas in 2015 and again on Harmony of the Seas in 2016.

Whether it’s a classic cocktail or something you’ve made up yourself these guys are on hand to make it for. The combinations are endless with a choice of 30 different spirits to make up your drink and 21 mixers including sodas, juices and syrups.

So how does it all work?

  • If you have downloaded the app on your smartphone you can order your drink through there. Otherwise step up to a nearby Ipad and swipe your room key card or wristband.
  • It will then ask for your date of birth (i’m sure i don’t need to tell you why).
  • A menu will appear with a choice of drinks or go to the list to make your own up. If you choose a classic drink this will have reviews of what other guests thought about the drink.
  • Once you’ve chose it will show you the current wait time for your drink.
  • Watch as the robots make up your drink while you wait. That’s the interesting part it’s good fun to watch.
  • There are screens at either side of the bar to show what drink you’ve ordered and the current wait time.
  • These screens will tell you when your drink is ready. Just approach the bar and swipe your room key or wristband and your drink will be released to you on the conveyor.

I was really impressed by this technology but what do you think? Is it just another gimmick? Are you worried Robot Bar Tenders might one day take over the world? I’d love to know what you think feel free to leave a comment.
