Suite Dreams

I have just come back from a lovely relaxing eight nights away on Fred Olsen Braemar. We travelled from Southampton to beautiful Bordeaux and Northern Spain.

Braemar is the smallest of the Fred Olsen fleet of ships and also the shortest which means she can access ports such as Bordeaux and Seville which have river access. She also has a shallow draft which is ideal for navigating these waterways. We were able to dock right in the centre of all the towns and, with only around seven hundred passengers on board, didn’t once experience any queuing to get on or off. The downside to a shallow ship is of course the stability can be compromised and she did rock a bit through the Bay of Biscay.

We had decided to treat ourselves to a Balcony Suite and I am really glad that we did. I am a fan of corner cabins and those a bit quirkier in shape and this one did not disappoint.

Our room had some very good additions such as the large TV which could be angled to face the bed or sofa. Storage could have been a bit better with more drawers but there was adequate for our needs. The only negative side to the cabin was the very small bathroom with a shower curtain not a screen. We enjoyed an excellent daily room service breakfast and our complimentary “Suite Dreams” package of a bottle of sparkling wine on arrival, flowers and fruit and bottled water which was replenished daily, and early evening canapes brought to our suite.
